Family Eldercare’s mission to provide services that promote dignity and stability for older adults and people with disabilities resonates deeply with me. Every individual deserves to be treated with respect and dignity, regardless of their circumstances. With the unhoused senior population projected to triple by 2030, I am profoundly honored to work alongside Family Eldercare in this vital work. Together, we are committed to standing by seniors and individuals with disabilities – offering essential services, support, and advocacy. It is a privilege to be part of the solution, helping individuals access sustainable housing and ensure they have the stability they deserve.
- What excites you most about your role? First, is camaraderie. To come to a new job, organization, and team that have been working together for years can be challenging -especially walking into the unknown. So, team support and a welcoming environment is what new people coming in need most. Secondly, is that I get to continue doing what I am dedicated to doing, and that is serving the unhoused population. Especially, with Family Eldercare’s amazing housing team!!
- What gets you up in the morning? My kids and grandkids- and husband. My family means the world to me. I grew up in a broken, dysfunctional home and was a homeless youth. So I really take stock in ensuring that my family is solid, teaching skills and manners, and most of all, ensuring that they always feel loved!!
- What keeps you up at night? I am a bookworm… you can usually find me with my lamp on reading. My favorite author is Patricia Cornwell- in regard to the “Kay Scarpetta” series, where she is a medical examiner.
- Tell me about your animal companions . I have 3 rats…. Really, they are dogs. Yoda, Booker T. Washington, and Bean. They are my babies.
- What’s your favorite self-care activity? I am a person who finds value in introspection and personal reflection. I find that solitude offers me a sense of clarity, time to process emotions, solve challenges, connect with my inner thoughts, and helps me to regain mental and emotional strength.
- Describe your perfect Saturday. My perfect Saturday is beautiful weather, my kids and granddaughter, with a BBQ on the river. Spending the day laughing, with music, and teasing each other over events and situations over the years. It makes my heart happy and full of love to have all my babies in the same place at the same time.
- What’s a quirky habit or secret talent you have? I talk to myself – in full sentences, and out loud most of the time… LOL.
- What inspires you most, either in life or at work? To be a voice for our unhoused population. In a world where there is often nervousness or hesitation to stand up, I am committed to standing up and speaking out on their behalf. I am driven by the chance to use my voice in spaces where it can make a tangible difference, advocating for our unhoused neighbors, and working towards meaningful change for those who are often overlooked and unheard.
- What would you like to be remembered for? For two things- raising good humans (as their momma). I would also like to be remembered for my deep passion and unwavering commitment to serving our most vulnerable unhoused neighbors. I strive to be known for advocating for those who have experienced homelessness, standing up for their rights, and working tirelessly to ensure that every individual has access to safe and secure housing. My dedication to this cause reflects my belief that all people, regardless of their circumstances, deserve a place to call home.
